rather than American Apparel.
A lot of people don't realize this, but the American Apparel factory in Los Angeles is not a union shop.
I'm not here to speculate on why that is the case, but the fact is that there are only a few DOZEN union factories in this country that are still producing custom-printable garments.
Pathetically, these factories are being propped up almost completely by orders from OTHER UNIONS, even though there are many, many folks without a direct union affiliation who claim to be in solidarity with the movement.
The Daily Kos community should stand up and be counted. We should proudly wear our Dkos swag, but we can hardly be part of the "vast left-wing conspiracy" if we're unwilling to dish out $2 extra to support union made stuff. As we do with our direct support of progressive candidates, let's put our money where our mouth is.
Believe me, American Apparel will survive, at least as long as twenty-somethings still enjoy consuming their soft core porn in public.
I'm a daily reader, and I love the content and mission of this site. Please vote in the poll below and let's clean up our community's in-house supply chain.
With EFCA on the ropes, we need to do whatever we can, and this is one small but important step.
Disclaimer: The company I work for (proudly) sells union made merch, so I have a vested economic interest in these issues. However, I don't care who Dkos goes through for their swag, as long as the union bug is there.
