In the everlasting series of: You can't make this stuff up - the story of the Republican party's search for the new Conservative Messiah, the great minds of the GOP have now found their new Reagan in the most unlikely of places: On the Internets, the Youtubes.
After auditioning African Americans, Asian Americans and Naughty Librarian Americans without any luck, the techno savy part of the Conservative movement has lead the way and found Reagan's second coming.
His name is Daniel Hannan.
Mr. Hannan is now all over the place in the wingnut part of the Blogosphere and Media: Freerepublic, redstate, Drudge, Foxnews, you name it. And Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck have given Hannan airtime as well.
Here is Daniel Hannan's Audition for new Messiah:
Now, the brightest of you may have figured out that Daniel Hannan isn't a citizen of the United States of America. He's a Brit (born in Peru, actually), and he's not a Republican, but a member of the Tory party. And his rant is not against President Obama, but rather Gordon Brown (the dude smiling and taking notes in video). But Hannan is a Conservative, and believe it or not, a well-spoken Conservative. And the American wingnuts have fallen in love with him after hearing his 3 minute rant against PM Brown. Almost 700.000 in two days have now seen the video on the tubes.
And the comments from American Conservatives on the internets?
Finally, the Next Ronald Reagan has Emerged

Why can't the leaders of our party be like this guy?
Let's give him asylum, let's make him our new president!
Our leaders should study this guy
Why can't this guy move to America and run for President? I heard he was born like somewhere near Hawaii...
Glenn Beck says:
Please come over here, we need more people like you

And Rush Limbaugh himself says:
Hear, hear. Hear, hear. Republicans in Washington could take a lesson from the bravery of this man.
Rush on Hannan
Now, there is only one problem with their new Messiah. He's got a dirty little secret. It is not a secret as intriguing as Toe-tapping Larry's or Diaper Dave's, but still, in the minds of most Conservative Americans, it is a dirtier secret:
He supported Barack Obama for POTUS:.
"Barack Obama is all things to all men", say my critics on this blog. Well, yes. But isn't that what presidents ought to be? It's curious to see how those words, "all things to all men", have become derogatory. The phrase comes from 1 Corinthians: St Paul uses it to explain how he brings the gospel to different constituencies:
"And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law, that I might gain them that are without law."
