The fuel cell exists ... water is an easy source of hydrogen ... we know where the consistently sunny areas are ... we know where the consistently windy areas are ... we know where the tides change ... and we know how to turn those forces into clean energy.
At what point do we have to look at our current energy crisis as a lack of effort? At what point do we need to start staring harder at the companies whose interest it is to block progress and scream "DAMN IT I WANT MY WORLD TO BE LIVABLE."
You know Just wondering.
All you need to separate hydrogen from water is electricity or something like that right? And all you need for a clean fuel cell is hydrogen right? So why arn't our cars driving with the only byproduct being water?
Mountain tops are consistently windy. Its been proven that they are a good place to wind farm... even the old Appalachian chain is good for this with its Weathered slopes. So why are we blowing apart mountains for the coal which runs out when you burn it, rather than wind farming those very same mountains for a consistent source of energy?
We have deserts in this country that consistently see tons of sun on a daily basis, why isn't that being utilized as the primary energy source of that region. Any coastal area has tides, why arn't they being used as a consistent source of electricity. Coast lines are also windy ... more clean energy going unused. I must say its very confusing isn't it?
Unless you look at the amount of money being hard headed produces. How much money does the use of oil gross annually? How much does the coal industry gross annually? How much does the natural gas industry gross annually?
It doesn't make a difference to the auto industry what fuel they build their cars to use does it... what matters to them is selling cars. So if it were more profitable for them to produce fuel cell cars they would right? Unless they were in bed with the oil industry right?
Seriously lobbyists get out of my clean air and water. I would like for once for the fuels that are used to be reusable as is the case with converting hydrogen into water and back again ... or wind or sunlight ... seriously guys I don't want your carbon filled dirty burning trash anymore ... especially since everything we need to progress has been here for quite a while... so if you will PLEASE get out of the way...
If only asking nicely worked eh.
Edit: I think its important to note that yes these new technologies are expensive as one of the comments has stated. It is also important to note the externalized costs of conventional energy as is now. Pollution, dirty water, and disgusting air do not factor into the cost of production for the energy industry as heavily as they factor into the health costs of citizens. For instance asthma is exacerbated by carbon fuel emissions, this drives people to spend more on medications etc. Clean up efforts at spill sites, or the disposal of coal ash resulting in heavy environmental damage also is not considered in the cost of conventional energy. When totaled up in many ways newer technologies which are cleaner are in the end cheaper, but unfortunately there is no way to externalize the cost of production.
