This is a rant. Be forewarned.
I've had it with all of you guano loco conspiracy loons on this site. No, Obama is not taking pay-offs from Wall Street to give them gigantic bonuses. No, the Carlyle Group or whomever did not secretly pull strings to bring the world to the brink of economic collapse simply for a profit. And for the last time: No, Barack Obama is not a miracle worker, a messiah or anything more than a man with the weight of the world on his back. To see conspiracies and secret, globe-spanning deals that use the rest of us as pawns is not rational. It's only just paranoid ravings.
It's been less than three months. In that time there have been many victories for the Obama administration and as many - if not more - stumbling blocks. Under most circumstances, most people would crumble. But even as we're already beginning to see President Obama's hair gray under the tremendous 24/7 strain of the Presidency in crisis mode, he's still showing up. He's not phoning it in, he's not lying down. He's still standing under the strain of this job and every day demanding that we find new and better solutions to the problems before us.
During the campaign, he never promised us a perfect Presidency. He promised to be open and to try to do what is best for the country as a whole. Sometimes, that means he has to make unpopular decisions even if they're the right ones. What's important though is that they're rational decisions. And so far - especially in the case of AIG - they have been rational decisions and reactions. The truth is that at the end of the day, Obama's just a man. Geithner and all of them are just people. They may have a clue as to how to guide this country better than most, but it doesn't mean they are immune to making mistakes.
How many times have you forgotten to re-read a bill and ended up paying for something you didn't deserve to pay for? How many times have you misread something and not realized it until it was too late? How many times have you had the best of intentions but had it blow up in your face? Now imagine that only the entirety of the world is looking at you and scrutinizing every action you make.
This is supposed to be a reality-based community. Remember that the next time any one of you accuses our President of corruption, gross incompetence or outright lying. Bring proof, not just evidence that's circumstantial at best.
But for the love of God, spare the outrage. We've had enough of it to last us far past both terms of the GOP's next accidental President.
