A passion of mine since the days of my youth along with sewing has been music. When I think about the past I think about the music that was playing that year and the concerts I've seen. I love what music does to me, the high it gives.
This morning U2 played on Good Morning America. at Fordham University in Brooklyn (oops I mean the Bronx - thanks Dcoronata). I just love U2 I have been a fan of theirs for 29 years. The first time I saw them was in 1981 at the Agora Ballroom. The room was half full of about 100 people and they did all their songs from their first album "Boy". We tried to get our friends to go with us but no one wanted to attend. It was amazing. I fell in love.
They returned to south Florida in 1983 to play at Sunrise Musical Theater for the war tour. They filled the place. We went with another couple and got good seats. In those days to us we had to be touching the stage or it wasn’t a good concert. You know when we used to hold up lighters and not cell phones. Anyway, as we walked towards the stage Bono jumped in the crowd and body surfed his way over to our seats. He sang to our friends while she grabbed his towel around his neck.
Each year they returned the crowds got bigger. Each year they grew on us. I think they are the biggest band out there. They are known all over the world. They have become world ambassadors. The energy they bring to us through their music – through their good will.
And the best thing of all they truly love what they do. You can see it through their presence on stage. We are the ones who give them joy.
We are all at hard times today with our financial situation. We have to live within the society set up for us. But music....it takes it all away for us if only for a while. It brings smiles to our faces. When we get together to listen to whatever music excites us – we are one. The energy that flows through us is a good energy and Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry know this. They take this energy to give back to us through their constant ways of trying to make this a better place for all of us to live.
There is powers in many. Look at what we give when we listen to live music, what we do to ourselves and to others. The feeling it causes inside ourselves, sometimes this feeling last for days. If only we could hold on to the energy – we wouldn’t have the hard times we find ourselves in. If only we could scream, shout, dance, throw our hands in the air, celebrate all the time..... Because life is a precious gift with moments that are there to be filled with smiles.
U2 is so cool and funny. They were on David Letterman doing top ten on Wednesday. Edge went off and said something that cracked David and all of us up.
Doing good with what you have... passing the love. How good is U2? They have been doing this for almost 30 years.
