Here's former Bush chief of staff Andrew Card on Fox News chatting it up with Neil Cavuto:
Via Think Progress
CAVUTO: What would you do? What would you do? I mean, would you say, Mr. President, I know you are passionate about health care; now is not the time to do it; this thing at the White House now going on now, a waste of time? What?
CARD: I would establish a needs commission and fund that which the economy needs, not what everybody wants.
Let people work hard for their wants, but don’t have the government fund it. Let them fund the needs and restore the economy to a sense of what the appropriate level of risk is. I think we do — we have gone beyond discovering what the appropriate level of risk is.
If we don’t fund risk, we are not going to grow the economy, so we have got to find out what that level of risk is, rather than just taking everybody’s wants and piling into some spending bill and funding everybody’s wants. That is just the wrong way to go.
This really pisses me off. Let people work hard for their wants?!? You gotta be kidding me you sinister fuck. I work two jobs (which I'm grateful for considering many can't find one). I work 65 hours a week. That money from that work goes straight to bills. It goes to rent, it goes to food, it goes to student loans and after that it doesn't go very far. Certainly not far enough for some silly "want" like making sure my wife and 3 month old daughter have health insurance.
I bust my ass and do the best I know how for my family and feel like shit every morning I get up because I know they deserve much better than what I can provide for them. Do you know what it feels like Andrew Card to not be able to provide a sense of security for your family? Do you know what it's like to wonder what the fuck you're going to do if something catastrophic happens to someone you cherish? Do you know what it's like to feel a pain in your chest for 4 years and just ignore it because you have no health insurance and no place to turn?
My father served this country in uniform and has no health insurance. He is now unemployed. He went to Toronto when his gall bladder nearly exploded on him because he knew getting treatment in his own country was not financially possible. My little sister just graduated from college and is no longer able to get health insurance through my mother. She wants to work hard for that want you speak of but can't find shit in this economy.
What the hell is wrong with you Republicans? Are you seriously that myopic to think of health care as a privilege? I assure you Democrats aren't the only Americans with no insurance. Enough is enough. I come here to Daily Kos and read nyceve diaries and I get hopeful. I get hopeful that in the near future I might have this heavy burden lifted from off my shoulders. I am more than willing to work for that.
So Andrew Card one peice of advice: think before you open your mouth. Because what just recently came out is not only incorrect and insulting, it's downright hurtful.
