I've been suffering lately from mute blog syndrome, another casualty of the economy. Nonetheless, I have managed to write something about the G20 Summit, in the form of a total anachronism.
Which may be the best way to go, being as most economic solutions or commentary are based on the past, projecting onto the future, which is in fact a complete unknown.
So over the fold is a Sonnet on the Summit - Elizabethan, anyone?
An Economic Summit Sonnet
Around the globe, money's sudden plummet
from riches to a dirty snowball comet
has brought forth the great Obama from his summit,
wielding scales to measure loss and profit.
Paul Krugman says bankers should run the gauntlet
and give the US government a hatchet.
Merkl proposed the old mattress and corset.
Sarkozy, jealous, plans another gambit,
while Medvedev pulls from his hat a rabbit,
on which the Chinese dine, washed down with claret;
"And, by the way," says Hu, "you ARE my wallet!
I mean the USA; I'm walking credit."
"Not so fast," Barack says, "We're your market -
and I'm busy flushing Ponzi down the toilet."
And if that doesn't inspire you, imagine if President Obama gave a speech on the economy, which also happened to be a sonnet. (Don't ask me what's with this sonnet thing - it takes my mind off things...)
Obama: I Have a Plan
We have a plan, my friends, for the recovery,
We'll do it right by the American people.
It takes at least 14 months for delivery
Until the world economy gets stable.
First we have to give the banks a subsidy
To flush out toxins poisoning the system.
Now this may seem like we're rewarding perfidy
But anything else would be called socialism.
Then we're going to tackle the employment rate,
So banks have got to fund the private sector;
But we must change the industries that perpetrate
Climage change that's on the scale of Richter.
To top it off, we'll stop two wars from bleeding
The slim chance the above has of succeeding.
After weighing everything in the balance, many people may be simply glad they're NOT in Obama's shoes. A lot of mess those Republicans made...and their Democratic enablers...
