I went to the tea party in Athens, Georgia and had an informative discussion with U.S. Congressman Jack Kingston. It was a beautiful spring day. I remember reading a diary earlier in the day that said there's no need for someone to get hurt or arrested. I sometimes get ornery and hope to nail someone in a macaca moment, and without fail, I always end up...
Earlier this year, I tried some renegade journalism to skewer Paul Broun at a skeet shoot to benefit charity. When I arrived, there were only about 10 people, including Gov. Sonny Perdue. They invited me to join them and before the day was through, I was borrowing their guns and doing some shooting myself. Being a Democrat in Georgia can do crazy things to you, I guess. Or maybe it's just another one of those instances of that pesky hospitality.
Regardless, Kingston and I spoke for about 15 minutes on a range of issues...
I expressed my concern with the escalating rhetoric of the right, and he seemed to understand. He drew comparisons with Michael Moore, but I pushed my point that Moore never advocated insurrection and the like. It didn't seem like a surprise, but Congressman Kingston then said "Rush Limbaugh, I don't think we want to look for solutions there, I think you gotta look for what is the best served for the most people."
