I've just returned from the Albuquerque rally, and am still LMAO that the organizers decided to hold the event in front of the Spin Cycle Laundromat.
Follow me across the fold for some disturbing, and amusing, imagery.
I took dozens of photos, but my flicker account is getting thin so I'll just post a few of the highlights. People were more than willing to pose with their signs, proud artists that they were, but a few intuited my nefarious intentions.
I'd estimate the crowd at around 1000, more or less.
My first WTF moment.
Notice the proud, almost smug look they have. Everyone was like that. One guy drove by in a mercedes and while stopped at the light mentioned to me that he was reminded of the 70s...not sure how he was making that connection, but he was honking nonetheless.
Biggest threat - Change!
I asked this guy if he really believed what his poster said, and he laughed it off, saying that he didn't but some there did. Right.
Also.
And sad. Very sad. I asked her if she used medicare, and her friend ripped into me saying that she paid for it, so is entitled to it. I was beginning to feel like the lone liberal in a sea of crazy.
I told these guys I had also read Ayn Rand, but my favorite work of hers was Fountainhead. They looked at me with a blank stare - which made me think they had never actually read Ayn Rand's work.
And then, out of the freaking blue, I see this.
Final thoughts. It was weird, uncomfortable, and at times a little creepy. But I managed to get in and out unscathed. It is sad to see a misinformed public protesting things they don't understand. I wonder how many of those teabaggers know that they are getting a tax cut under the new administration.
UPDATE:
Here's a few more pics that I thought you should see.
Honk for capitalism. Really, that is the least you can do.
This was odd. The guy had an upside down flag with a small confederate flag inserted on the pole, and a bit of paper which, upon closer inspection, I can make out two names: Mugabe and Stalin. Asshat.
I can haz hiztry clasz?
Infowars? Really? Again, fail.
