- Get off your ass and demand accountability of our federal officials.
I work in local government, and I truly believe that when you are working with public dollars you should have an exceedingly high standard of accountability.
This makes me sick, but it is the ultimate consequence of the Reagan-GW Bush mantra that government should be starved on the vine, all regulations are bad, and the role of government is to feed corporations at the taxpayer's expense.
Unfortunately, wasting TARP dollars is just the symptom of a horrid disease. We must break the cycle. And it is a simple way to do it. Demand accountability. Every Senator, Member of the House, and yes, even President Obama, must demand that those who we paid $100 and then gave us $66 worth of stock face punishment, and that regulations be put into place that ensures that this will not happen again.
This is our government, and we must demand that it protect us. From funding fire fighters in our cities to financial regulators, we must provide them the resources and demand transparency or billions of dollars disappear.
And as for Elizabeth Warren, I hear the Secretary of the Treasury has a great view from their office.
