I just signed on for a little while before beginning my homework and saw
this atrocity on the Recommended Diaries list. Jeebus, I don't know where to start.
You're going to flame me for this, and that's fine. But it's my opinion, and I've got a damn good right to express it. So quit reading, or sit back and listen.
Look, it's everyone's right to come to this site, and everyone's right to leave it. Some people just disappear, others post a comment, others even (like Theoria) nuke their entire accounts. But occasionally someone posts a diary explaining why they're leaving. Sometimes they have a legitimate reason, like it's taking too much time from their lives or their circumstances changed or something. Most people here don't seem to have much trouble with that.
But every once in a while -- more frequently now, perhaps -- someone posts a swan song that criticizes this site. Often the criticisms are inane and pointless, sometimes they have some merit. In any case, these are real criticisms from REAL people, not just computer faces, who are turned off to our views and possibly our message by the behavior of people on DailyKos.
I thought Democrats were the ones who learned from the critiques of others and became better people because of it. I thought Democrats were the ones who had respect for people who thought differently, who looked at every human as having something to contribute to the discussion. But the responses to this diary have, it seems, proved me wrong.
Apparently now it's cool to mock and brutalize individuals who disagree with us. What the Republicans did to us on the playground we now do to each other on the Internet. Have we no shame?
So stop. Please. Stop making fun of a human being you've never met, and look at yourselves in the mirror for a good, long time. I guarantee you'll feel sheepish.
