I still have a permanent address away from my current place of residence. When moving to where I am I choose to fill out a voter card in the city of my residence. From the 06 election to the 08 election I moved places and I forgot to change my address.
When getting up to vote (I was voting early mind you) I was questioned like no other. I had my drivers license and voter ID card but they still asked for all the information that was upon me.
At that point, I said what the hell. Yes, I should have changed my address but an ID lining up with my voter identification should have been enough.f
All of this just brings me to the question that is going around in Florida. The 2010 Census is nearly here and there are poor people being paid to get petitions signed.
When I was approached by the woman (who obviously needed moeny) she asked me to sign the petition. I asked her what the form was for. She said that the government redistricts the votes every census and changes it so the districts are in their favor. I asked her what the petitions said and she was so knowledgeable that she said it allows the government not to redistrict at all.
I almost crapped my pants when I heard her explanation. I really don't know about the proposition and I agree that redistricting needs much improvement, but when someone who has no idea of what gerrymandering is asks me to sign a petition about redistricting I just had to laugh at their face.
Gerrymandering is a problem and a problem that I believe shouldn't be handled by stupid voters. Voters are subject to the wording of questions and how you ask them. By offering a proposal to the states constitution by signing x amount of proposals, itmakes a mockery out of the state constitution. The constition is supposed to be drawn up by legislatures andratified by a super majority. Letting the voters choose whatever they want based on 600k votes just seems stupid to me.
I always choose no on any constitutional proposal that would change the states constitution, and that's why I'm a bad voter.
