As reported in Ken's updated but now-scrolled-off diary
In the Special election for the NY-20 congressional seat, Scott Murphy (D) currently leads by 401 votes
with less than 1000 votes left to count. He asserts that "Tedisco may concede as early as tonight."
More about concession and mayonnaise below.
Somewhat in support of the notion that Tedesco will concede is
this video (no embed available), wherein Tedesco's lawyer fails to offer any hope of victory for his client other than
We will see what the numbers are. Again, we have been charged with going and opening the valid ballots, and that is what we are doing, opening the valid ballots"
Sounds like an obese member of the fairer sex about utter words in musical tones to me. (OTOH others have suggested that, although essentially conceding their loss, Republicans will continue to press on in NY court to hopefully establish precedents that will aid them in preventing people from voting in future elections.)
Meanwhile, the Albany TimesUnion reports that ballot reviewers in Albany today found when examining ballots
multiple marks, random messages and a smear of what looked like mayonnaise on one ballot
And in a typical display of Republican belief that only (real) mustard men and not (girlie) mayonnaise people deserve to vote
The mayonnaise ballot was left up to the judge to decide after a lawyer for Scott Murphy said to allow it; lawyers for Tedisco said no.
New York law, somewhat foolishly, fails to note whether mayonnaise-stained ballots are legit, although
Random marks, signing your initials, filling the box next to your candidate's name with your signature instead of a check are all things that render a ballot invalid.
Wonder what the Lizard People (rumored to have boarded a plane for Albany from Minneapolis this afternoon) will think of that.
