ok, so i'm at work and have a grant to write, so this will be short. and technically not a diary. But it made my head spin. Talk about the GOP eating their own. First they lose Specter, and now, they cancel an appearance by the Republican governor of UTAH???? what is this world coming to?? What was that Al Rodgers said in his diary? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHH UTAH!
As reported today in the Salt lake trib story
Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s appearance at a Michigan county Republican Party event was scrapped this week after the county chairwoman said that hosting the moderate Utah governor would mean abandoning the party's conservative principles.
Kent County Republican Party Chairwoman Joanne Voorhees abruptly canceled the party fundraiser scheduled for Saturday.
"The voters want and expect us to stand on principle and return to our roots. Unfortunately, by holding an event with Governor Huntsman, we would be doing the exact opposite," Voorhees wrote in an e-mail quoted in The Grand Rapids Press .
So the crux of the matter for Ms Voorhees turns out to be civil unions and Huntsman's take on the issue, which does not adhere to the wingnut end of things. Huntsman has stated his support of civil unions and that, apparently has rufflled the feathers of the likes of Ms. Voorhees. Apparently, the chairman of the MI republicans was a tad embarrassed at the kerfuffle, and called Jon to apologize. Interesting developments!
here's another money quote from the article:
The group Campaign for Michigan Families praised the cancellation, attributing it to Huntsman's support for civil unions, and urged the Oakland and Kalamazoo county parties, where Huntsman is also scheduled to speak this weekend, to do the same.
"Presumably he is testing the waters [for a presidential run] and we hope he realizes now the waters in Michigan will be hazardous to someone who endorses the homosexual activist political agenda," said campaign director Gary Glenn.
This should all be fun to watch! but let's not get too complacent. 2010 is just around the corner. Back to work now!
Update: h/t to Kos for the GOPosaur!
