We still don't know how many. We don't know why. But their families and the people of Binghamton are hurting.
Mass murders and murder-suicides seem to be in news every week. Sometimes, hate is the motivator, but often it's some kind of desperation: a failed relationship, a lost job, a need to be seen and not ignored. Sometimes, there doesn't seem to be a reason. Why would a father or mother kill his/her children?
Even though we don't know who the victims were, they're someone's children, someone's brothers or sisters, maybe someone's parents.
While we hope and pray that this will not happen again, we know it will.
Unless we live in a world of no freedoms at all, a lone gunman who is intent on killing is hard to stop.
Think of Binghamton today and send your thoughts and prayers to those who survived, to the families of those who didn't, and to the family of the perpetrator, who will have their own special hell to suffer.
And hug your family and count your blessings.
