Ok, look, I admit I found this diary yesterday about Neal Horsley from the Georgia Creator's Rights Party funny, and I'm from Georgia. There are screwballs in every state after all, all sorts of politicians out there that have done disgusting and/or just plain stupid stuff. Let me be clear: I've not no issues at all with the diary and the story.
But, hold on a minute. Taking a look at the comments this morning however...not so much. There's way too much southern bashing going on to sit well in this Georgian's stomach. Why in the hell with sort of attitude should Southerners embrace the democratic party, with comments such as these?
Well, it is Georgia. He could get a pretty strong affinity vote.
The incident with the mule likely will not hurt his chances. After all, this is Georgia we're talking about . . .
I could go on and on.
We talk about how the GOP is a regional party, not a national one. At the same time, we can't let ourselves become an "anywhere but dem Southerners" party, because that too is not a national party.
Yes, as a Georgian I'm ashamed of the guy. But, shockingly enough, not a whole hell of a lot of people in Georgia enjoy screwing mules (ok...screwing ass on the other hand...)
I know I shouldn't be surprised, but there's such an anti-southern bias around here sometimes I still find myself caught off guard. What good comes from mocking Georgians? Southerners? Why should Southerners respect the Democratic Party when there's no respect back? I thought we were the big tent, the party that respects individuals despite who they are and where they came from, and that we were above such petty generalizations.
There are democrats everywhere. There are liberals everywhere. There are people with problems everywhere. There are people with solutions everywhere. There are people fighting the good fight everywhere. There are kossacks everywhere. We are everywhere.
