Looks like our Chicagoan president's favorite pizza comes from a city 250 miles south, St. Louis....
St. Louis — After wowing the immense crowd at a campaign rally under the Gateway Arch last fall, Barack Obama found himself wowed by the pizza his staff ordered from the Delmar Loop.
Now that he's the big cheese in Washington, he's calling for seconds.
Pi, which opened in St. Louis just over a year ago, is expanding its political circumference all the way to Pennsylvania Avenue, where later this week the proprietors will prepare a pizza feast for Obama and his family.
Remember when the O-Man swung by St. Louis and held that massive 100,000 person rally under the Gateway Arch last October?
Well, it turns out that Reggie Love suggested that the then-Senator try a slice from Pi, a trendy new pizza place on Delmar Boulevard (since renamed Barack Obama Boulevard) in St. Louis. Love became friends with the restaurant's owner, a diehard Obama supporter at a fundraiser back in 2007.
And what did Barack think of the pie from Pi?
Not only did he eat the pizza, but U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, who was at the rally, said Obama "loved" it.
Later, [Pi owner] Sommers said, he received a personal thank-you call.
"Reggie called me and said, "Hold on, somebody wants to talk to you,'" Sommers recalled. "'This is Sen. Obama. I just want to say that is the best pizza I have ever eaten.'"
Apparantly, Barack is such a huge fan that he's having the crew from Pi fly in from St. Louis to the White House to prepare him his favorite pizza...
The White House confirmed that the crew from Pi will be cooking lunch for the president and his family Friday afternoon.
Sommers will join [Pi co-owner] Mangialardo in cooking for the Obamas. The presidential menu will have 10 deep dish pizzas and 10 with thin-crust, including several of Pi's standing items: the pesto-flavored "East Loop," the vegetarian "Berkeley" and the "Bucktown," topped with roasted chicken.
They'll also prepare a custom pizza — the "Hyde Park" — that features a dose of Buffalo wings hot sauce made specially for the president.
Sommers was told to think big — the Obamas are expecting leftovers, he said. Sommers said the president and his family are planning to enjoy more pizza on their Easter holiday.
So take that, Cubbie fans!!!
