A few months ago one diary noted Jim Gilliam's project Whitehouse2.org, but it popped up and sunk away. So I'm noting it again and inviting progressives to participate. Gilliam was honored in 2008 with Take Back America's second annual Maria Leavey Tribute Award for his behind-the-scenes work building the progressive movement at Brave New Films. Initially, he pitched the site as a tool for Obama's first 100 days: "We're imagining how the White House might work if it was run completely democratically by thousands of people on the internet." But its usefulness goes beyond the first 100 days.
The site is a great place to bump up visibility of progressive ideas, to spread policy proposals of others, or to test out policy ideas of your own. It's a place to add documents and links that support progressive thought.
It's also a place to oppose bad right-wing ideas. Although the site was created by a progressive, it's open to all, and currently libertarian/conservative ideas and their proponents seem to be holding sway.
Also note the demographics of the site visitors: white, single males over 35. It would be helpful to change that.
Two of the top priorities on the front page (by virtue of being endorsed by more people or opposed by more people) are
Replace the federal income tax with the "FairTax"
Keeping the Bush Tax Cuts
Oh, and teaching creationism is a toss-up
Let's put up some numbers over there!
