All the progressives campaigned against the California propositions, which were the product of a grueling compromise in the dysfunctional legislature. And all the props lost (well, all the ones that matter).
So, my question to all those who are chortling at this is, okay, bright bulbs, NOW what? Because as the gubernator put it, there is no choice but serious cuts:
Cuts to eduction
Cuts to social services
Cuts to safety (and wild fire season is coming)
Cuts to prisons
And in case you didn't notice, we still have that dysfunctional legislature.
Now, I did not vote for 1A (I am averse to Constitutional amendments by proposition, me being gay and all), but I voted for 1C-1F. Because even though I didn't like them, but I felt we didn't have a choice. I still don't understand why they failed so spectacularly.
Now, I can predict exactly what is going to happen. Chaos, that's what. Because typical of California, no one wants their favorite program cut, which means more grueling attempts in the legislature, where the minority of Republicans (who are truly the rump fringe of Republicans) will demand cuts of everything but prisons (which always leads me to wonder if Republicans don't have kids in school, don't get sick, and don't need the police. But I digress.)
You may say, "now they'll have the fix the process" but, er, you know what? No they won't, and more importantly, no they can't. Not in time to do anything helpful.
So, how exactly do you see this playing out?
Because all I can see is that we're totally screwed.
