Alot of talk going around about EFCA and why it needs to be passed. This diary will talk about some of the pros of Unionization and what good it does for people. Follow me past the jump to see why I put PRO in quotes.
This diary is an idea that I have been thinking about for a while. I put pro in quotes not to be dismissive, but to indicate it will be a play on words. Unions do alot of good for their members, the job market, and even those who aren't in that Union themselves! Here are some PROs of unions:
Produce: Union labor helps to insure that the workers know what they are doing. You can get people who are trained in a craft and supervised by other qualified workers. An example here would be electricians. This can also show the quality of work of an assembled product, not just trades. Examples here would be UAW.
Provide: Unions helped to grow the middle class by making sure that their members were paid livable wages. Healthcare is provided to make sure sick family members are taken care of.
Protect: Unions will step up to the plate to try to prevent unlawful firings of employees, intimidation, or even just closing up shop to move overseas.
Promote: Unions tend to promote ideas that are helpful to members, their families, and Americans in general. This can be seen in political activities and events held by or sponsored by the union.
edit to add good ideas:
Project: Unions help their members to show a united front. This can be for contract negotiations, grievances, or strikes. This also helps to foster relationships between coworkers and strengthen their bonds.
