The Republicans are clearly flailing around for a message of any kind. This is no surprise. Battered by two successive rounds of crushing electoral defeats, and with no clear and compelling leader in sight, they've resorted to infighting, internal witch hunts, and a political strategy lifted from Nancy Reagan's "War on Drugs". They're out of ideas and totally out of touch with the American people. Their only chance at electoral success outside of the South and Great Plains is against Democrats who either have corruption problems or who are personally unpopular. So in casting around for a message, Rep. Tom Price, (R-GA), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the uber-conservative group in Congress, makes such an EPIC FAIL moment it must be seen to be believed.
This video was produced by the Republicans themselves. It was posted on the YouTube account of the Republican Study Committee. Obviously, this was done with the permission of Tom Price. This simply proves how insanely out of touch the Republicans really are:
So let's recap - after singing the praises of Abraham Lincoln, Congressman Price says:
"There are many Americans who believe that our current President is not bringing people together - in fact is dividing people. What do you think? Take a look at this."
Then a clip of President Obama castigating greedy businesses plays:
"And while many stakeholders made sacrifices and worked constructively, I have to tell you some did not. In particular, a group of investment firms and hedge funds decided to hold out for the prospect of an unjustified taxpayer-funded bailout ... I don't stand with them.
"I don't stand with them" is then repeated a couple of times.
Now do you know anybody who stands with greedy businesses who wanted taxpayer-funded bailouts? I don't. But Tom Price and the braindead Republicans on Capitol Hill apparently think the American people stand with bailed-out businesses who got taxpayer dollars, because he says:
"What I saw in that clip troubles me a lot. What I saw was our president saying I stand with these people, but not with those people. What he said was I stand with some Americans, but not with all Americans. It's a very chilling statement."
Guh?
That is quite possibly the worst case of reaching at straws I have EVER seen in my entire life.
Okay Tom Price, you and the Republican Study Committee stand with taxpayer bailouts of big businesses. We've got it on the record. It's on video. Seriously, do you guys even comprehend what you're saying? This is a ridiculous case of EPIC FAIL.
