Time for the right wing to step up to the plate.
Dr. George Tiller was murdered today. Dr. Tiller was the subject of prior attacks by political extremists, who targeted him for performing medical procedures that a local jury recently found were perfectly legal. The acts of violence directed against him and the people who worked with him included at least one prior shooting and the bombing of his clinic.
These acts of terrorism have now claimed the life of an American citizen, on American soil -- at a church, no less.
This is intolerable.
According to media reports, the police have a suspect in custody. It isn't known whether the suspect acted alone, or whether more and greater acts of violence are planned for the future. Our friends on the right have told us what they would do when faced with such a situation: waterboard the suspect. If it will save even one life, they say, "the choice is easy."
I'm betting that the guy in custody now knows about -- or at least will confess to knowing about, under sufficiently enhanced interrogation -- all manner of diabolic plots to kill church-going Americans. It's time for the right to step up to the plate and call for the immediate waterboarding of the suspect.
After all, it's not even torture.
UPDATE: I thought -- wrongly, it seems, judging by the first half-dozen comments -- that borrowing the title of Jonathan Swift's famous work of satire and placing a 'snark' tag on this diary were sufficient to make it clear that I'm not actually advocating waterboarding anyone -- just wondering how our friends on the right could oppose it.
