This morning, after lots of local press coverage on TV and radio in the DC area, the DC City Council again voted unanimously (this time 13-0) to recognize marriage equality.
The story from the Post indicates that the 13-0 vote may have included DC Councilman Marion Barry who just days ago appeared in front of a band of 50 churchgoers from a suburban Beltsville, MD church to deride marriage equality in the District.
This story is developing as apparently minutes ago the Post updated the story to indicate that Marion Barry has asked for the vote to be reconsidered as he didn't realize that he had voted on marriage.
Typical Barry. Too bad, for a minute I thought he had a change of heart.
Mayor Adrian Fenty is expected to sign the bill into law. Congress will have 30 days to review it.
UPDATE: The article in the Post now says that Barry actually rescinded his vote so that he can "undo" the unanimous vote. Shame on Marion Barry, kow-towing to bigots! The Post has edited the story several times in the last few minutes.
Clarification: This bill recognizes marriages in other states. As the article says, the Councilman David Catania (I-AL) and former Republican is planning to introduce a full marriage equality measure later this summer if Congress does not intervene over this measure.
