I only caught this one in passing, as I was driving my son to baseball practice this evening. But, unless this got explained better after I left, one of the top-rated right-wing radio hosts in Los Angeles has taken anti-government douchebaggery to an entirely new level.
Since yesterday, a brush fire has been burning above the Mission Canyon neighborhood of Santa Barbara, roughly two miles west of the incredibly damaging fire in the Montecito area last fall (and, catching my attention, about 2.5 miles east of my 82 year-old aunt, who lives in the foothills of the San Marcos Pass).
The fire kicked up hard this afternoon, driving down the canyon into the Mission Canyon neighborhood. Conservative estimates of loss are at 20 homes and climbing.
And, amid all this, conservative radio show "John and Ken" threw out one of the most disgusting wingnut conspiracy theories I have heard in quite some time.
John Kobylt, at around 5:30 PM PST today, actually seemed to allege that someone affiliated with the state government INTENTIONALLY STARTED the Santa Barbara fire.
Why would someone in the state government commit arson? To help the "compromise" propositions which are on the ballot in about two weeks.
Seriously.
Kobylt's "logic", such as it were:
- The pro-propositions political group began to use firefighters advocating for the propositions in commercials this week.
- Gov. Schwarzenegger alluded to fire safety as a reason to pass the propositions, since that is one of the components that could face budget cuts if the propositions did not pass.
- The fire started in May, which is an unusual time for a brush fire to break out.
Kobylt, along with partner Ken Champiou, are ardent teabaggers (the protests...dunno about their personal lives). For the moment, the idea of a "tax revolt" has replaced immigrant-bashing as their cause celebre.
But, boys....really???!!!??? This???!!!???
