The OECD composite leading indicators (CLIs) for January 2009 continue to point to a weakening outlook for all the major seven economies, with the OECD total falling again to a new low and little clear indication of stabilizing soon. The outlook has also continued to deteriorate in the major non-OECD member economies ...

This interesting information comes from a new (to me) study called the Olduvai Theory, which correlates standard of living shown by energy usage per capita with population trends and energy source depletion. It seems a little more synthetic and prescriptive than the usual Oil Drum reports, which seem a bit detached from the politics of populations control, which are easily the most important politics.
If we don't control population, we are wasting our time in activism, because all our efforts will be swamped by the wave of hungry, angry teenagers.
Religions grow population, the Military Industrial complex wants cannon fodder, and the Big Consumer Cancer needs more users of their drugs.
We spend hours talking about abortion, but not a single comment in the "Who's a Christian" diaries (save my own) that I saw, talked about Full Quiver, the Christian large family movement.
Immigration into California is almost completely Catholic large family culture. Islam is fervent on the raising of large families. Europe and China are slowing down.
Am I crazy, or is there a tacit agreement not to talk about population control in any serious way because it's another political hot potato, and we need to keep our powder dry?
