Today, as part of an effort to push much-needed healthcare reform, President Obama is holding a town hall meeting at the Southwest High School in Green Bay Wisconsin.
I think the purpose of this town hall is to bring real faces and real stories into the health care reform debate.
With the economy in the toilet and millions of people out of work or out of full-time work, I'm sure the number of uninsured has reached all time highs. The time is now to get health insurance for all. As you all know, there's a lot of opposition out there, but I believe the President has momentum on his side and he's committed to getting this done this year. So like many of you here, I'm hoping he's successful in ensuring every American gets affordable and excellent health care.
The White House will be carrying the event live here: www.whitehouse.gov/live.

Update: I'd appreciate if folks would rec this diary to keep it from falling off the list before the President's town hall actually begins. I inadvertently published the diary too soon. Sorry.
Update 2: Thanks to all who recommended this diary (first time on rec list for me :)). President Obama was on form - as usual - and I hope he continues with his campaign to push health care reform through this year.
Thanks for watching all!
Update 3: Just saw this headline on HuffPo:
Obama Reasserts Support For Public Plan While AMA Backtracks On Opposition
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
Here's there clarification:
"Make no mistake: health reform that covers the uninsured is AMA's top priority this year," a clarifying statement from the group read. Every American deserves affordable, high-quality health care coverage.
"Today's New York Times story creates a false impression about the AMA's position on a public plan option in health care reform legislation. The AMA opposes any public plan that forces physicians to participate, expands the fiscally-challenged Medicare program or pays Medicare rates, but the AMA is willing to consider other variations of the public plan that are currently under discussion in Congress. This includes a federally chartered co-op health plan or a level playing field option for all plans. The AMA is working to achieve meaningful health reform this year and is ready to stand behind legislation that includes coverage options that work for patients and physicians."
The wind is behind our backs guys. I think we can win this time. Keep up the pressure on your congress critters and the White House!
Great way to top off this diary as it's about to fall of the rec list: Local coverage of today's town hall and little 10-year-old Kennedy's good fortune:
