make the leap...
Sarah Palin was on the Today Show today talking, among other things, about her recent flap with David Letterman. A few interesting things came out that we should look at.
At approximately 5:20 in the tape she says that comedians like Letterman are in part responsible for girls’ low self images.
At around 5:45 she states that "[Letterman’s joke about her daughter] does contribute to the acceptance of some abuse of young women."
Around 6:00 minutes in, she starts asking for people to take a stand against the disrespect shown to females.
Set aside all the obvious snide remarks we could make about the new feminists of the GOP; instead I want us to think about the recent surge in right wing violence. Many people have claimed that right wing news outlets and pundits have been feeding the fire, but I have not heard any acceptance of culpability from their side. In fact, News Busters accuses Rick Sanchez of bias for accusing Fox News, etc... of stoking the flames. When Sheppard Smith stated that the DHS report about right-wing violence might not be the laughing matter they all thought it was (I'm calling you out, Joe, you fucktard!) he started a bit of a civil war at Fox.
But now, since Palin admits that voices from entertainment shows (much less NEWS shows) can actually have an effect on people (verily, even entire demographics), doesn’t it beg the question whether or not she thinks that O’Reilly et al contribute to the acceptance of abuse of liberals?
Somebody needs to ask about this apparent contradiction and see if she will ask the good, moral people of America to stand up to these bullies provoking violence against liberals.
