Dear "Democratic" Senator or Representative,
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a votor. You may not recognize me as such now that you've been hobnobbing with lobbyists and big money men. Me, I'm just a little person. Oh, I don't mean little as in skinny or short, I mean I'm just your average Jane on the street. I'm a life long Democrat, and have always worked hard for Democratic causes and candidates.
Now, I don't mean to be a pest, but I think I have to tell you some things about the reality of what it means to be a "Jane on the street" in modern America.
What I really want to talk about is health care. And health insurance. I know you guys like to use the terms interchangably, but they are not the same thing. Ask Allena Hansen, who was mauled by a bear and then by Blue Cross. It's the little people like me and Allena who end up in the grinder of "for profit" health insurance. What's especially sad, is that Allena's story is fairly common. You, Mr. or Ms. Congress(wo)man, don't know the extent to which the insurance comanies have screwed Americans. That is the danger that I want to bring to your attention today.
Here's the story, we are tired of being screwed at every turn, by banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, etc... And we are especially tired of the bait and switch that happens at election time. Here's how it goes....You guys tell us that if we send you to Washinton, you will fight for us, you have our best interests at heart. We get all enthusiastic..."YAY!!! Finally someone who will fight for us!!" So we work our butts off, we buy t-shirts and donate and knock on doors and hand out fliers and do every thing we can to get you guys elected. Oh yeah, and we VOTE!
So now the election is like, so 6 months ago, and now you look at us little people and think about how little we have in our pockets to fund the next election. Mr Lobbyist is whispering in your ear...he has LOTS of cash....OODLES of it!! We don't need no steenkin' health care reform! No siree, everything's just hunky dory just the way it is. Just tell those little people that we don't have the votes to pass it...Sorry, maybe next time we'll get lucky.
So, here's the thing...we little people are watching you guys (and gals) to see just how much of our best interest you intend to serve. We have been getting sold out pretty regularly, and we're tired of it!! If you can't do what we sent you to Washington to do, then next election we'll find someone else who will!
When the Republicans were in the position you guys are in now, they rammed through everything that they wanted, and the hell with what everyone else thought! But, you guys just weenie out, "Oh noes!!! We might piss of some Republican if we vote in the best interest of our constituents!!! OH, no!!!" Oh, and one more thing. All those lobbyists dollars will not buy a single vote from a constituancy that feels like they've been ripped off. Think about it.
And just one more other thing. If you get a chance, go into a convenience store and take a look at all the posters and money jars out there mooching people for spare change to help pay for catastrophic illnesses and such, then try to tell me how well the current system is working.
Yours Truly,
A Democratic Voter
