Yes, these freedom-hating, theocratic, fascist-loving creeps in the White House have changed my 43 year old life. They have made me realize that I need to do what I should have done 20 years ago. I am going to take the LSATs and apply to law schools, and, if I am successful in gettng in, I am going to work for the ACLU or an organization that safeguards the little guys against an abuse of power by the government or huge corporations.
Some more thoughts below:
I used to be a Republican, like a fool I had supported Bush in 2000 and have cringed ever since. I am now a rabid anti-Republican, the left's logical and intelligent Ann Coulter. I talk to everyone about this administration, I drive my friends crazy with emails, I obsess over what these people are doing to my country. What is an obsessed person to do? I had thought of running for Congress, but smart people have discouraged me because of the amount of money it would take where I live. Besides, I think most politicians have to sell out somewhere along the line, and I am never going to sell out again. So what else can I do?
I admire the work the ACLU and Amnesty Intl are doing trying to keep this administration in line. So I decided to go to law school and help in this effort. I know I will not make a lot of $$ doing this, I will not have a corner office with a view of Central Park, but I will be doing my share to help our nation survive. I have to do something, but this all keeps me up at night.
In retrospect, I am glad I waited. If I had done this earlier, I would probably have ended up on the dark side, fighting for tax cuts and to keep my stockbroker clients who stole 20 million from the pension fund out of jail. But in waiting, and getting away from the views of my wingnut family, (who, BTW, has one less wingnut member after my stubborn, obnoxious brother-in-law saw Fahrenheit 9/11 and now HATES Bush and Cheney) I will be going to work for the good guys. The guys who care about average Americans and those whose rights as human beings are being taken away.
So for me, this administration has made me realize that you can't just sit on the side and complain. Action is called for, and I am going to answer my own private call for action.
