Great memory from commentor Tunghoy on Huffington Post today:
Republicans have a lot of chutzpah. For the 6 years that they controlled the House and Senate they not only prevented Dems from proposing amendments, but they cut their mics, wouldn't let them hold hearings, wouldn't even let them let them use their time on the floor. Even when the GOP had enough votes from both sides to pass a bill, they would hold it back if too many Dems were planning on voting for it, just so Dems couldn't take credit. Some of those bills were for hurricane relief and child immunization.
Let me repeat: the Republicans purposely hurt the American people who needed them most, just to score political points. Party first, country last. That's why the GOP is a shrinking minority. Good riddance. Let them rest with the Whigs.
Going back to Bush 1, the republicans have always tried to rewrite history based on the assumption that we, the people, are too dumb to remember what came before. Sometimes its a case of their side taking credit for something that didn't happen (I clearly remember George Bush 1 trying to take credit for the fall of the Berlin wall during his campaign - simply because he happened to be VP at the time) or reworking things that did ("EVERYONE" saw the same intelligence from 9/11 and voted to go to war based on that).
Now they whine and whine about how we're the bad guys, keeping them from helping the American people and forcing through votes that only the far-left are for.
Let me refresh your memory on a few things we haven't forgotten:
-- Your party lied us into a war
-- Mark Foley. Larry Craig. David Vitter. And now John Ensign.
In the case of Foley we remember that Dennis Hastert and his gang tried to cover up the intern scandal internally.
-- The Katrina debacle was the result of laziness. We heard Bush prior tell us "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" then SAW him on video being told otherwise :
A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and then-Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown told the president and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that he feared there weren’t enough disaster teams to help evacuees at the Superdome.
-- On responding slow, your President's inability to react quickly to a crisis is the same as his father, who waited so long during the L.A. riots before acting that many died who did not need to.
-- Bush vetoed the SCHIP bill, even supported by some republicans.
-- You interfered in the private life of an ordinary citizen regarding decisions that should only be made by their families - going so far as issuing a subpoena for Terri and Michael Schiavo as well as the hospice workers.
-- Your support of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) which doomed many of our companies and worker wages.
I encourage other Kos members to refresh their own memory of issues, bills and actions the republican party stood behind, or muscled through, while in power and post them here so we have a good solid, single record of their disregard for us. Personally, I'm just tired of republican politicians speaking to me as if I know nothing.
Just for the record, guys, we will remember what your party did to us and bring it up if you decide, once again, to assume we remember nothing.
Unfortunately for you, the people who don't use the internet, only watch Fox news and abhor contrary opinion are a small minority - and if you expect them to be the wind in your sail that blows you back into office you have a shorter memory of reality than we do.
