How nice for him. So much in love that he cries at a press conference as he talks about crying in Argentina. Love. It is a beautiful thing, sometimes even a painful thing, when you have to make choices. Choice between old family and maybe someone new who you gave your heart to. I feel bad for his family. They get added to a list of lots of families that I feel bad for.
I do not believe I should judge Gov. Sandford about being in love. His marriage is failing or failed. He has children from that marriage and I can imagine that it is a difficult time for him and his family, for all that are involved.
The problem is, is he capabable of handling the duties of Office. His disappearing for days into another country without security, without his aides or Lt. Governor knowing where he was, that is the most shocking to me. He is a public servant and he let the public down in not just a little way.
Did this trip cost tax payers' money? Has prior private trips cost tax payers' money? Was there any use of Government vehicles...etc.
That is more important to me than if he was cheating on his wife. That is private. I can't judge it because really, I do not want to be like Republicans with their constant moral high ground. I know that from their heights, when they fall, they fall hard, splattering all about them in their duplicity. Vitter, Ensign, Sanford. And most importantly, I do not walk in their shoes.
As a public servant, did he have a chronic breakdown of Ethics? If he did, this is what we should judge him on and action be taken on that.
I do not like him because of his grandstanding about the stimulus package for South Carolina. I know why they are against it, but I am a Federalist (if that is a word). But still I am most embarrassed by the publishing of his private emails to his lover. That is not news, that is private. Give us a list of public servant ethics that he broke and then run with that.
