I've been reading the Daily Kos for, gosh, about 3 or more years now. I remember when the diaries first started up. That has been awhile now. I try to read diaries as often as possible, especially the recommended ones. However, due to time, I know I miss a lot of the good ones. Occasionally, I'll print one out for my wife to read, and she enjoys these too. Yesterday, I read (and printed) the diary called 'Thank heaven for little girls'. I almost didn't read it for the title, but it got a lot of comments, and since I have a 7 year old daughter, I decided to read it. I am glad I did.

My wife had no idea about how there was a vaccine that could, one day, save the life of our daughter but that the religious right is trying to suppress it. To say that this is outrageous is an understatement.
Anyway, after reading this, I had a thought: What if someone were to take all of the best diaries since the diaries began, and put them together in a book? The book could be broken down into sections such as "Bush cronyism", "Economics", "Science", "History", etc. Perhaps the 10 to 20 top comments could be included also. The fact that not all diaries are political in nature is a real plus for me.
I know that I've missed a lot of the best diaries, and I would greatly welcome a book where I could read all the ones I missed, and re-read the ones I enjoyed so much. One in particular that I enjoyed was a remarkable story about the child of a WWII prisoner whose life was saved due to Russian (?) soldier, and the children of these two soldiers later met in a remarkable series of coincidences. Yeah, I know that I probably messed up that story a bit (a lot), but I LOVED that story, and would love to re-read it. If this one was in a book, I would be able to have it and show others. I know that there are LOTS of diaries like this I missed.
Other reasons why this book is a good idea:
- It would be fairly easy to put together. I am sure that most or all of the diary writers would be thrilled to have their writing in print, and would be happy to have any royalties donated to keep the dkos site functioning.
- Yes, royalties. Given that close to a million DIFFERENT people regularly come to this site, and if only 10% buy the book, you've got a best seller! In fact, I'll put a poll in at the bottom: Who would buy this book?
- It may bring a lot MORE people to this site. In fact, I would guess that even people who didn't buy the book would be interested in the site: All they would have to do is to read a diary or two in the bookstore and they would be drawn here. And, if the book made the best-seller list, lots of people would be at least curious about it.
So, how about it? What diaries would YOU like to see included in such a book. You already know two that I would like to see.
