Today the NPR ombudsman finally got back to me about a complaint lodged by email May 4, 2009 wherein I stated "A couple of weeks ago I finally turned away in disgust at NPR's journalism when in a piece on Governor Sebelius the reporter (or vedette to use a more accurate French term) mentioned the "notorious" doctor who performs abortions who has given money to Sebelius. Why is this doctor notorious? No explanation. Instead you just absorb framing from the stupid people who have led our country to ruin these last ten years. Look if I want point of view I will stick to Air America. I want accurate news without unecessary adjectives being put in like little detonations."
NPR's anodyne response is below the fold. It can be said, however, that NPR was part of the media environment that helped make the killing of Dr. Tiller more acceptable. He was "notorious", after all.
NPR's response: "As for your email, we appreciate your comments regarding the coverage of Kathleen Sebelius. Your thoughts will be taken into consideration.
Each week nearly 26 million people turn to NPR for thoughtful, informed journalism along with music and entertainment programming. Whether tuning in via a local public radio station or logging-on to NPR.org, we are committed to providing listeners with the best possible reporting. There is no room for bias anywhere in our newsroom."
Oh my! Using right wing adjectives in reporting is so bias free!
