No joke here: Newt Gingrich believes California -- in particular, San Francisco -- represents the future of the Republican Party. (Apparently, he thinks that the rejection of Schwarzenegger's spending and budget initiatives last month means California's support the national GOP.)
At the same time that he's courting California, however, Newt is busy slamming the Supreme Court's first-ever Latina nominee. Last week he apologized for calling Judge Sotomayor a racist; now he's saying that what she said is racist, and would never be tolerated if it came from a white person.
About two hundred years of history has a different view on that one, Mr. Gingrich.
Finally, and perhaps most absurdly, Gingrich says he's freaked out about the possibility of health care reform passing. Why? Because, he says, the goal is to "destroy insurance companies."
That's right. Newt Gingrich thinks health care reform would be a bad thing because it might harm private health insurance companies.
Talk about loony priorities...Newt, he's got 'em.
