Last week I got a list of possible bands for the huge Daily Kos bash at Netroots Nation Pittsburgh, really bringing home how close we are to the big event. Those of you who were in Austin and hit the Daily Kos party know that we take this thing seriously, and we're looking to blow last year out of the water.
So yeah, we're 30 days away. Have you made your plans? If not, hurry. Hotel rooms are sold out at the Convention Center hotel, but there are some rooms left at the Omni a few blocks away. But really, they're going fast.
The panels are being updated nearly daily, and yes, it's true -- Meteor Blades will be in attendance. That alone should be worth the price of admission. I suspect attendees will be shocked at how different Pittsburgh is from popular conception. Rather than the crumbling steel belt town of old, it's quite the dynamic city. As tallied by jdn74's guide to Pittsburgh for Netroots Nation attendees:
*Most Livable U.S. city by The Economist in a 2009 worldwide survey of 140 cities (Pittsburgh Ranked #29 in the world).
*Most Livable American city in the 2007 Places Rated Almanac.
*Best midsize city arts destination by American Style Magazine.
*One of Frommer's top 13 travel destinations for 2008.
*In the top ten of MSN City Guides Most Walkable U.S. Cities.
If you want to join 1,500 of your fellow netroot activists in Pittsburgh, stop procrastinating. Registration is $275, and there is a $50 rate for students. You can register here. And I guarantee you will have a blast. Thousands of attendees to previous editions of this conference will back me up in the comments.
p.s. the Pittsburgh bike community is hooking me up with some nice, tough, training rides while in town. Yup, I'm bringing my bike. I'm currently riding about 150 miles a week, and I look forward to exploring the Pittsburgh-area countryside on my saddle. (Don't expect me at any morning sessions.)
