The Rachel Maddow Show last night detailed how John Ensign's parents had each written $12,000 checks to Senator Ensign's mistress, to her husband, and to each of two of their children. These were billed as "gifts" that complied with all federal tax laws.
I decided why not try to get my share?
So I called Ensign's Washington D.C. office: (202) 224-6244. I told the nice lady who answered that I wasn't a constituent but that I wanted her to ask Senator Ensign to intercede with his parents and convince them to each write me checks for $12,000. She completely deadpanned it and took my name and zip code.
I then asked her to ask the Senator if he was interested in hiring my nine year old nephew as a policy analyst for one of the committees Senator Enaign serves on. The aide dutifully took down my nephew's name and contact information.
I would encourage anyone else who is interested in money or a nice job for a family member to contact Senator Ensign's office and ask him to speak to his parents about it.
They appear to be very generous people in these hard times.
