Perhaps you should take some things into consideration:
First of all, I have never seen anybody offer any evidence at all that this will work. "Maybe it might work, possibly, so why not screw over women."
The most likely Republicans to support it are Olympia Snow and Susan Collins of Maine - both of whom are pro choice women.
How is this going to increase the likelihood of them voting for it?
Democrats like Travis Childers were against putting funding for contraception in the Stimulus bill earlier this year. It was taken out and...he voted against it anyway. Why would this time be different?
Aren't people at dKos Fighting DemsTM? Don't we hate compromising on principles? Of course. Except when you don't care about the issue or it effects people you don't care about, then it is perfectly okay.
I am not an Iraqi nor an American soldier, but I am a progessive, so I am concerned that people are dying for no reason in a useless war.
I am not attending an underperforming school in an urban environment, but I am a progressive, so I care that children anywhere are being denied an education.
I have insurance, but I am a progressive, so I care about people who don't because everyone deserves health care no matter what the circumstances.
I am also not a woman. But I have concern that conservative nutcases think that certain people do not possess certain unalienable rights simply because they have a uterus.
Again, those so cavalier about throwing women's rights overboard offer no proof at all that will work. They also do not seem to care that a very large majority of the Democratic party is made up of women.
In fact, once you cave, conservatives will smell blood. You know this. Conservatives have been doing this for the past 10 years! Do you really think those people will magically lay down all objections? They will all find new things to complain about.
Treatment for those who OD on illicit drugs should not be covered because it encourages the use of illicit substances! I am sure others could think of examples about AIDS drugs, lung cancer, and so forth.
And yes I hear people say that they will donate money to Planned Parenthood to make up for it. Sure, I will believe that when I see it.
And I also hear all the people saying we could increase Planned Parenthood funding in the budget to make up for it.
I am dead certain that those who are saying that will find some other issue that will be jeopardized if Democrats push for any kind of funding for reproductive health.
