Check out Josh Marshall to learn that Grover Norquist has trademarked "K Street Project." Norquist wants to trademark "Republican Lobbying Corruption."
I guess in the application to the trademark office his lawyers may ask for exclusive rights to engage in organized corruption under this title in the environs of Washington, DC. Of course, the scope has reached worldwide. So they may not settle for the geographical restriction.
Nah. That's not enough. Of course, Norquist and the gang are corrupt and yes, they are greedy scum. But I'm guessing this move is typically enough about more than greed. More below...
But, Norquist's move is probably even more about suppressing free speech. He's figured out that the "K Street Project" is politically toxic, but the general public is not yet fully aware of it. By threatening to sue anyone using the phrase because he's hoping to slow the emergence of a nice phrase succinctly capturing the self-reinforcing corrupt relationships between Republican Congressmen, their political allies, and corporate lobbyists and ties Delay, Abramoff and
those who remain together.
Maybe Norquist figures that the money he can generate from trademark lawsuits can be used in his legal defense fund. Let's take him up on it.
So here's my suggestion. It's time for every reasonable person and certainly every blogger to the left of Trent Lott to write about the "K Street Project." We can start here at Kos with a research project. Then let Grover sue us. The press alone will highlight what's really going on.
