I've been puzzling over what could possibly be the motivation of the Right in attempting to confuse the issues related to the health care debate. It's obvious that they don't want a real debate; they offer no plans for change; they make it clear they are quite happy with the status quo.
Republicans are the party of status quo. They have had it their way for many, many years and have nothing more to offer except, the more things change, the more they should stay the same.
They have gouged, gorged, ripped, raped, wrung, stiffed, pigged out, and stolen about every asset this country has at the present time, forcing us into many generations of debt to recover. Why wouldn't they want more of the same?
But what could they possibly hope to gain by offering total lies and fabrications about the health care issue that can be so easily proved or disproved? How about the one that claims there are provisions for death squads to come to my home and snuff out old guys like me? I mean, Americans are really stupid people, I admit, but this claim is so outrageous that it is too easily proved or disproved. It is way too exorbitant to be believed. Isn't it?
Death squads for the aged is not so exorbitant to someone who believes that saving a mother's life by aborting an embryo (a human being, in their minds)is murder. Operating from such a major premise, it is quite reasonable for them to believe that people who argue for a woman's right to choose would also engage in senicide or a form of old age euthanasia.
The point of feeding such incredibly stupid lies and distortions right now is that the Republicans know that this technique will work only while there are several health bills bouncing around Congress. There is no one unequivocally defined health care package at present, and that works to their advantage.
When one bill finally emerges from Congress and it does not include anything even remotely related to the unconscionable lies and distortions they have spread, the Republicans can claim that they have saved America once again from liberal and progressive excesses.
We must remember, Republicans are the party of the American way: Greed is good; pig out; get it while you can; give nothing back in return, and once you have it, hold on to it for as long as you can.
Why would such a party ever want to see any kind of change?
