Assumption - the Public Option is in real or at least perceived trouble.
Solution - avoid the obvious age and class conflict by enlisting your enemy on YOUR side in an electoral threat against the GOP drummed up NOW - not next year.
In other words - the GOP will get hammered without the 50-65 vote.
After reading several diaries which confirmed my own perception that mostly low-info seniors were objecting to Health Care Reform (thanks, Seneca Doane), why not engage your enemies' weakness preemptively rather than confront their strength head on?
Now, the obvious question is this - "We are seeking healthcare for all. Why this?"
This much is true - so make Medicare for 50+ a part of the new HCR Act. But LEAD with it. The public option should be reserved for those under 50. Plus, the maladies are similar for 55-75, thus the solutions derived from preventive care.
To object to such a plan for a 50+ is to object to Medicare for himself.
Who is most affected today by the loss of health insurance coverage?
(those 50-65 and their attendant afflictions)
Who votes most loyally for the GOP?
(50-65 for McCain/Palin).
How would you like to be Obama/Biden riding into 2010/12 with 60% of your most problematic demographic on your side?
Entice the tiger to leave its mountain lair.
(Never directly attack an opponent whose advantage is derived from its position. Instead lure him away from his position thus separating him from his source of strength.)
(Ancient Chinese wisdom.)
It is time for offense for proponents of HCR now!
