That's it. I've tried hope. I've tried explaining that the fire department and the police department are examples of socialism. It has been explained over and over again that taxes for the middle class will not go up. You won't have to change doctors. Or health insurance.
So, I am having to resort to what got people to put Sharpie to back of a box lid- fear. So here it goes.
The swine flu is coming back with a vengeance this fall. You need your neighbors, fellow bus riders, and movie goers to be healthy! It's what will help protect you!
I have only one republican friend that I talk politics with. She had no response to this:
I ride the bus. In the winter people are coughing all over the place. I want those people to have access to the dr. They could have TB for all I know.
What could she say to that?
Everyone, even the rich, mix it up with the uninsured.
The uninsured are at the movie theaters. Sitting right next to you.
The uninsured are at the grocery store. Behind you in line.
The uninsured are your maids.
The uninsured are the valet.
The uninsured are the chefs at your favorite restaurant.
The uninsured are the taxi drivers.
The uninsured are in your family.
Maybe you're not rich. You're a hardworking American with health insurance. Why would you care that someone didn't have insurance?
The uninsured were standing with you in protest of healthcare reform outside that town hall. They might've even breathed on you. Hope they haven't traveled to Mexico lately.
The uninsured are your child's substitute teacher. (didn't you hear? she was dropped from insurance, and when she has the sniffles she still goes to the school because she needs the work)
The uninsured are the restaurant workers. The guy at the gas station. Your babysitter.
You could walk around in an astronaut suit to avoid the germs from these uninsured people. Or, and more convenient for you, the uninsured could have affordable access to a doctor.
We'll show that swine flu, that regular flu, and whatever that thing is that makes us cough up green stuff. That's right! We'll show them. Healthcare for all!
(After reading some comments I realized my flair for the sarcastic is not as good as I thought. For that group of people that thrive on fear...fear of grandma getting the plug pulled...I thought I would remind them why having healthy people is a good thing for all of us using fear of swine flu as an example)
