Where can you go when you're unemployed and perhaps homeless? Who will take you in, clean you up, offer complete health care, clothe you, feed you and put a roof over your head? Who will provide you lifelong benefits including tuition at the college of your choice and, ultimately, burial in a beautiful cemetery? No, it's not one of the socialist democracies of Western Europe! It's the US Military! And WORSE, it's run by the evil, foul and completely screwed up US GOVERNMENT.
We know the right wing hates the US government, but the military IS the US Government:
All branches are part of the uniformed services of the United States and are under civilian control with the President of the United States serving as Commander-in-chief, per the United States Constitution. All except the Coast Guard are part of the Department of Defense, which is under the authority of the Secretary of Defense, also a civilian. The Coast Guard falls under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, but during wartime, the President may place the Coast Guard under the Department of Defense through the Department of the Navy.[7]
Sure, the wingnuts love to piss on the 760,000 Americans who work at the USPS - after all, you have to WAIT ON LINES (sometimes), proving, of course, how terrible that gubermint hellhole is, but what about the, "almost three million personnel," comprising the US Military? What does the right say about a government operation that "receives $711 billion per year in funding...?"
Why, they ALWAYS ask for MORE!
And why don't we scrap it in favor of corporate warriors from the private sector? Certainly if the right wing is hell bent on saving the insurance industry, so they can save us, then why not put the safety of our NATION in the hands of corporate America?
I think it's time that the left fights back on this theme - both to Republicans and right wing Democrats. Sure, they love to bash the US Government, but do they have the stones to trash the US Military - which IS the US Government?
We already know the answer to that question. And as to those benefits enjoyed by Military personnel, on either active or inactive duty, reserve or retired? Well, there's FAR TOO MANY TO List - but here's some (courtesy of the US Government funded, US Military.com):
Government SUBSIDIZED Housing:
Military housing benefits are only available through the military, and are typically housing that asks for a substantially lower amount of rent that is paid that trying to live in housing that is located elsewhere.
Government SUBSIDIZED Health Care:
Medical benefits in the military are excellent AND affordable. The problem is they are often confusing! Start getting a grasp of what is available for you and your family by reading through our Health section.
Health benefits are available for all seven branches of the Uniformed Services: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Government SUBSIDIZED Education:
Whether you’re considering the Army, Marines or another branch of the US Military, you should know that one of the best reasons to join is to get a great education. Education costs are skyrocketing all across the country but with your service in the military, you can get a top quality education absolutely free. Through programs like the GI Bill, your entire tuition and other educational expenses can be paid for while you’re serving your country in your preferred branch of the military.
You can take advantage of these great education benefits during your service in the Marines, the Air Force or other branches. In many cases you can still benefit from the educational provisions put forth by the government long after you’ve left active duty.
Say it loud and say it proud! The US Military is the ULTIMATE Public Option!
You’ll get the amazing financial benefits of joining the military when you join.. Healthcare, education, housing, retirement, military discounts and more are yours when you become a Marine. And no matter how bad the economy might be you don’t lose your benefits.
