Well here's a little item on a health care town hall that ought to get some media play, but hasn't...
California republican congressman Wally Herger considers a self-proclaimed terrorist a "great American."
"One speaker said he could trace his ancestors back to the Mayflower and said "they did not arrive holding their hands out for help. "I am a proud right wing terrorist," he declared to cheers.
Herger praised the man’s attitude.
"Amen, God bless you," [Congressman] Herger said with a broad smile. "There is a great American."
This happened at a town hall in Redding, California...last Tuesday. I'd heard nothing about this exchange, which is sadly not too surprising, as the media seems hesitant to point out the extremism in our midst. Drudge is linking to it, which is the only way I heard of it. And even his headline --
Congressman: Obama's health bill 'threat to democracy'... -- buries the lede.
What will it take for the media to call out these lunatic elected gop'ers? Why are the "respected" members of the republican party not calling for Herger's resignation? McCain, Snowe... that's about all I can think of, at the moment.
Update: to address a point raised in the comments... yes, I've no doubt the self-proclaimed terrorist was being sarcastic. He's just a blowhard. My beef is with the congressman. This guy is an elected official and his response to this comment (haha! terrorism!) was to say "God bless you" and call him a "great American."
