From the Minnesota Independent:
The religious right is ramping up its campaign against health care reform, even joining with the "tea party" movement to encourage conservative Christians to swamp town hall meetings. Minnesota’s religious right leaders say that the health care reform package is against God’s plan for health care and that Christians should go to community forums and "read them the riot act."
And at some point the question must be asked how long will it be until the state and the federal government begin to impose taxes against these "churches" and other "religious organizations" posing as political policy influencing operations.
But just wait! Did you know that God created government? The far-right religious organization known as the Minnesota Family Council says so:
Some may ask what does God have to do with our health care system. For one, He's created the government as an institution in society to do certain things. When we reject His design for government, in a sense, we're rejecting Him.
That's some serious whackaloonery right there folks.
God created government and it all runs according to His design. By rejecting government, you're rejecting God.
I guess it would be sacrilegious to point out the fact that by teabagging the government, the wingnuts are therefore teabagging God.
But of course, the insanity in the bible-thumping core of Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District isn't complete without a nutball mention of Michele Bachmann. Courtesy of religious radio talker Jan Markell of Olive Tree Ministries who told her listeners:
"Here’s what you can do, your congressmen and senators are coming home for much of August. They are going to have town hall meetings all over the place. You need to go there and give them an earful. The ideal thing to do is to go to their town hall and read them the riot act — in Christian love — but read them the riot act on this issue of health care."
But she implied Michele Bachmann should be exempt from any grief:
"[Michele Bachmann] is one of my favorite people. She is doing just an outstanding job in Congress standing up for what is right. She’s got a target on her back. You need to pray for her and her family."
Is this batshittery confined only to Minnesota? Oh, hell no. Here's the tax-exempt Christian Coalition of America:
Barack Obama and the liberals in Congress are pushing for a drastic government takeover of our nation's health care system. And the only thing that can stop them is you!
Their proposed scheme would:
• Mandate taxpayer funding of abortion
• Limit our choice of doctors
• Cause health care costs to skyrocket - followed by tax increases
• Kill American jobs
• Provide healthcare to illegal aliens, while rationing care to elderly and disabled American citizens
• Cause millions of Americans to lose their current insurance, forcing them on the government plan
• Make it illegal to buy or sell individual insurance plans
Unless Americans take action immediately, this bill could become law in just a few months! But we can stop it. We simply must stand together and speak out with an overwhelming voice and say "NO"!
So there you have it. You take the most white-knuckled and gullible group in the nation (wingnut Christians) and whip them into a mouth-foaming frenzy - Call on them to not only join the teabaggers in their crusade to disrupt the democratic process, but to also convince them that not doing so would invalidate their relationship to God.
These are the freaks we're up against - Devout radicals on a mission from The Almighty.
