I was reading one of the diaries about the Supreme Court hearing a
case about corporations First Amendment rights.
Some of the justices were concerned that they might abridge the
Constitution by limiting corporations First Amendment Rights. I agree
with Sotamayor's questioning of whether the Supreme Court erred in
giving corporations personhood.
WHEN CORPORATIONS BECAME PEOPLE IT GAVE THE STOCKHOLDERS AND THOSE IN
PROMINENT POSITIONS IN THAT CORPORATION "DOUBLE RIGHTS".
They have their individual right of freedom of speech plus those obtained
by becoming part of a group powerful enough to LIMIT AND CONTROL
this same freedom of others. They can express themselves personally and
AGAIN THROUGH THE NAME OF THEIR CORPORATION. They have standing in
court as an individual and again in the name of their corporations.
The best example of this is NEWS CORPORATIONS. Those who own varying
types of news media newspapers, television, radio, satellite and internet
sites can CONTROL what the public sees and hears and thereby CONTROL
and DIRECT what laws are passed and what party is elected in this nation.
The power of the press is greater than any group or union because IT CAN
MAKES ITS WILL KNOWN ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND WORLD BECAUSE OF ITS
RESOURCES AND CONTROL OF THE NATIONS AIRWAYS.
THE TRUE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS NULLIFIED BY THE CORPORATE CONTROL
THE NATIONS MEANS OF COMMUNICATION.
Simply by choosing what news the citizens will hear 24hrs a day, the
people are kept ignorant. We see this even in the books that are published. Right wing conservative authors are constantly in the top
10 because corporations buy the books in bulk and distribute them to
people in order to enhance sales and give the impression that these
authors appeal to the public.
I dont doubt that some books are bought by individuals but I think
that thousands of dollars are spent by corporations rigging the system
to promote their agendas. This being another version of the way drug
companies give physicians expensive trips and equipment for ordering
their products for patients.
The Supreme Court needs to consider just what effect their decision
has made in the nations electoral process. The court, to my mind, is
EXPANDING THESE RIGHTS FAR BEYOND WHAT THE CONSTITUTION STATES.
Everyone talks about limited government. Maybe we should be thinking
of limited Supreme Court decisions. Perhaps it is time for Congress
to amend the Constitution and clarify just what or who is a citizen.
NB: I have a question? Why is it that when the government wants to find
out information about leaks, they hold the WRITER accountable. IF THE
CORPORATION IS A PERSON, WHY IS IT THAT THE OWNERS, MANAGERS,EDITORS
ETC dont share in the jail term?
This bothers me. Why does a corporation have all the rights but none of
the punishment. If anyone knows I would appreciate some clarification.
