Some illegal aliens should get federal money for health care, and some abortions should be funded with federal health care money.
Lost in the hoopla over some punk trying to ingratiate himself with Palin and Limbaugh; by dissing the President on live TV, is a serious discussion of a key issue. No matter what reform gets passed, it will not be perfectly written and it will not be perfectly administered.
Legislators should not have as one of their goals, that absolutely no illegal aliens get any benefits. Why? Legislation that is so restrictive will result in someone not getting health care they are entitled too. The legislation should strive to make sure everyone who deserves the health care gets it, and if a few illegal aliens get some also, so be it. Imagine if you will, every single illegal got $10,000.00 a year in health care paid for by the federal government, a grand total of 130 million dollars a year. That is a drop in the proverbial bucket. The actual dollar amount of course is minuscule.
The same argument applies to abortions. Again, imagine a young pregnant woman that you love more than life itself has been in a terrible accident, the only way to save her is to immediately abort the fetus. Sadly, the pregnancy is well into the second trimester. Do you want the ER staff to be worrying about the legal status of that woman or do you want them to get busy and save her life?
When we let the debate or discussion get framed in black or white, good vs. evil, conservative vs. liberal, we as a citizenry have let special interests distract us from working together to solve our problems. If all we see and hear are irrelevant, short sound bites; then the powerful have managed to again maintain the status quo at our peril.
