Perhaps Yosi Sergent isn't as familar a name to Washington Progressives as Van Jones. But he's the second one to fall to the nagging hiss of Glenn Beck's "Send Me Your Dirt" campaign. We don't need to wait until it's three to stop this crap from happening.
Yosi Sergant has been demoted as the Communications Director for the National Endowment for the Arts. The White House says it had no role in the position drubbing. But as the HuffPost article points out:
At issue was an August conference call in which the NEA encouraged select artists to participate in an administration project dubbed "United We Serve" and led by the first lady.
Beck attacked Sergant and the NEA on his Fox News talk show, accusing the agency of propaganda efforts similar to those used by Nazi Germany.
How is it the the NEA didn't just tell Beck's minions who must have contacted the NEA to go fuck themselves? That's a hard question to answer. Is it possible that Beck can suggest that having the President of the United States suggest that all Americans chip in to pick our nation up by its bootstraps is some kind of Nazi campaign ... and we would all just stand there like mouth breathers, completely knocked back on our heels, and do nothing about it?
Are we that vulnerable?
Is there more to the Yosi Sergant story that would warrent his demotion and the real story isn't getting through? Or will Beck really get an X in his KO column over this young progressive?
You may recall, Americans began questioning former Tyrant GW Bush as to why he was sending our nation's poorest (and blackest) youth off to die in Iraq, without giving the nation the usual "All Do Our Part" speech Americans expect to hear at war time. So it seemed only logical, refreshing, and about time when President Barack Obama began sending out his rallying cry that if we're going to survive as the great nation we once were, it was going to take something from all of us: Volunteering in the community, Joining the Peace Corp, Joining the Armed Services, and a host of other slack-taking measures that every bully pulpit president has raised since there was a microphone to raise it.
But now that a Democratic President is doing it it's "Nazi", or so says Glenn Beck. And since Yosi Sergant was caught participating in this evil, fascist, Hitler like activity known as "supporting our country" ... he deserves to lose his job.
What are we doing wrong? How can Glenn Beck be hemorrhaging commercial accounts like a hemopheliac and be doing his most effective hate festing ever?
We have to push back harder. And I believe it has to start by calling the NEA and demand that they either clarify that Sergants demotion had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with that pasty little GOP pig by defining what was the reason ... or give him his job back.
