I no longer have children in this school district, but I do have relatives in this district. This is from their web page:

Presidential Speech on Sept. 8
The President’s speech will not be an activity we will participate in during school time at either the "building" or "district" level. Selected high school classes may end up presenting the "President’s speech-to-school children" in a course such as government, political science, etc. We will make available the webcast link to all families who wish to access it on their own during non-school time.
If at the high school specific courses align with this presidential activity then it may become part of their daily lesson (i.e. Government Class). Should any of the high school classes plan on airing this "speech," the teacher will give notice to parents prior to. High school parents who are opposed to their child(ren) watching the "President’s Speech to School Children" are welcome to send a note to school and have their child(ren) excused for that period of time.
Note that they have put quote marks around the word "speech". I don't know how many other school districts in our area will do the same, but I plan on calling tomorrow to ask if parents are 'welcome to send a note to the school' and have children WATCH the presidential address.
I'm on my way to work but this rather infuriated me. A school district randomly deciding not to honor a presidential address to children across the nation. Perhaps progressive parents need to keep their children home from school in order to watch the speech with their parents on C-span. But then, that would rather defeat the purpose of the radical subject matter the President hopes to address...that of "challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning."
I need to move. :::sigh:::
