Dear Sir:
I regret to inform you that your upcoming re-election chances may have been compromised. You see, we don't think we have the votes to elect you, and therefore we are compelled to vote against you.
Granted, if we all voted according to our will, we would probably be able to re-elect you, as we actually probably do have the votes. But because you have shown us we should vote with the majority, and if the majority of us believe we don't have the votes, and thus vote against you, then the majority of us will vote against you, and thus we don't have the votes.
By following your exemplary example, I am sure you will be pleased to know we stand behind your principle to vote according to our worst-case projections as opposed to our conscience, will or even whim. If we convince ourselves we don't have the votes, we can bring ourselves to vote against anything. This is the important lesson we have learned today, thanks to your principled efforts.
I wish to extend my condolences on your upcoming election defeat.
Thank you for your time,
DC
