Thousands rally for public option on Boston Common as the state legislature gets ready for a public hearing on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. on a temporary appointment to Kennedy's seat.
On Labor Day thousands rallied in Boston on the Commons for a strong public option for health care. The beloved Senator Kennedy's lifetime push for Health Care Reform was acknowledged by many. The Weneedtwo.org group was spreading the word of the public hearing on Wednesday September 9th at 1:00 before the Legislators Joint Committee on Election Laws.
There is a sense that a strong push from Massachusetts citizens for a temporary appointment of a "caretaker" Senator would succeed. People are being encouraged to join us at the State House for the 1:00 p.m. hearing. Plans are underway for crowds to both rally outside the capitol and for those able to come earlier to join in the public hearing.
One of the conditions for any appointment would be that the individual chosen would not be allowed to run for the Senate seat in the upcoming special election. The appointment would provide the Democrats with the much needed 60th vote to override any health care fillibuster.
Massachusetts citizens should call their state Representative and Senator at 617-722-2000 and tell them that "we need 2 Senators right away!"
